To define is to limit
If one starts with the truth, every statement made ahead in the post is false. But it has to be written for the sake of false to be recognized.
Ludwig Wittgenstein, noted philosopher devoted all his life to philosophy and mathematics but it was philosophy that interested him most throughout his life. He wrote many treatise, books and journals. So did he read voluminous amount. But at the end of his career he came to strange conclusion which reflects in his profound statement: The limits of my language mean the limits of my world. Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent. And after his realization he quit his scholarly life and started building houses. In fact he made his own house from scratch.
The problem with words is that they just are a fickle representations of our thoughts and feelings. And since our thoughts and feelings are so momentous that they fail to capture the movement of life. Language is a disease of humanity. However lucid and intricate it may become, one can never express oneself truly rather completely to other. Using words, we built thoughts and define everything we know, but as soon as we define something, we negate it. This has to be understood properly.
Suppose, there is something kept beside you, you don't know what it is; right now potentially it can be anything, in fact it is everything. But then I bring on language and I say it is an apple, now since it is defined, it has become limited. Now it cannot be anything more than an apple. We have limited it's capacity of being by naming it. Now stop for a while and look within and without deeply: how many things have been defined and labeled around and about. Pretty much everything in space and time has been described. But how is this description a problem to us?
Simply, because we limit ourselves by defining ourselves and the existence.
Kierkegaard said If you label me, you negate me. We remove ourselves from the big picture.
Every thought you have is a description or label of you, the others, the past-you, present-you or the future-you, time, incidents, your things and attachments. We describe everything today. That description is the problem of humanity. Freedom is slowly discarding the descriptions(word here in general term of spirituality is thoughts). We have thoughts of what is happening in and around us. But what it actually is just a description of something that is happening but actually it is just the happening. Understand the term happening. It happens in the moment. The moment is where you live. And everything else is imaginary description. Life only includes the moment. Moment includes the life. In between the affair of two there is you and the imaginary world of descriptions you have built. That world is what haunts you and is the trouble. Stop imagining, erase the descriptions, destroy the world you have built around yourself till you are left with nothing to put a foothold upon. Just you, the moment and the life.
Peace.
